Patna: Drain water flowing on the road and a foul smell emanating from it for the past two days has made life difficult for people residing in areas of Rajdhani Market, Khetan Market and some pockets of the Sabzibagh.
The residents have to navigate through dirty drain water to complete everyday work, besides the areas, being important commercial hubs, are also witnessing slump in commercial activities because of this issue.
Local businessman Naresh Agarwal, who has his shop in Rajdhani Market, said the ground floor is flooded with drain water for nearly three days, and customers have stopped coming to his shop. "The waterlogging has also led to chaos and traffic congestion," he said. A commuter, Ashraf, said it took him nearly an hour to cover hardly 500 metres in the locality on Saturday, as there was a traffic jam because of dirty water flowing on the road.
Local people alleged the problem started on Wednesday when the "wrong linking" of the drain led to a backflow of water on the road.
Ward no. 30 councillor, Rahul Yadav, said for the past two day they have been trying to solve the problem. "The problem is with two chambers in the link road connecting Nala Road to the Rajdhani Market area. Both the chambers are choked," said Rahul, adding that the officials and staff of Patna Municipal Corporation were looking into the matter and they would sort it out soon.
Another councillor of ward no. 40, Asfar Ahmed, said residents of his area too were facing hardship as drain water was overflowing on the road and even entering the residential areas.
